Paper Bridge Timeline
This Timeline shows a 9th-grade science teacher, Nancy Cianchetta, from Everett, Massachusetts, doing the paper bridge challenge over the course of three days. Everett is an older industrial town in New England that has seen its manufacturing base close, and is a suburb of Boston.
Day 1 of the Timeline shows
Nancy introducing students to the notion of a bridge
carrying a single water bottle as a load, and the need
in engineering to make the bridge with as little material
as possible while still supporting the load.
In Day 2, the design teams take
on the challenge of supporting 3 water bottles with
as light a bridge as possible.
In Day 3, Nancy conducts a teaching
lesson/discussion as a review of key ideas before students
design and make their final designs.
