Learning By Design Cycle
A key feature in the Learning-By-Design Cycle is that
the process of designing products complements and is similar
to conducting scientific Investigations.
This part of the LBD™ pedagogy works as follows:
After students explore the material with which they will
design their products (called "Messing
About"), they use plans given to them by their teacher
to build an initial, poorly working device. They then
go back-and-forth between conducting investigations, reporting
results to their classmates, and building and testing
devices (and reporting results). While alternating between
these two cycles, students do signature activities for
which LBD™ is noted, including collecting initial
ideas via Whiteboarding,
giving Gallery
Walk, Pin-Up and Session presentations.
