Hot Hands, Warm Gloves
Having students design products with which they have
frequent exposure can make them more aware of how much
that surrounds them in their work has been designed
by someone. The article that you can access using the
link at the bottom of the page presents a design task
that takes about 2-3 days for students to complete.
It was made to be used when students are studying heat
and thermal energy in a physical science or physics
class.
You may want to notice the sequence of activities that
come before students actually design their gloves. Students
get a chance to confront misconceptions like thinking
that gloves provide warmth (versus reduce the flow of
thermal energy from hot hands to colder places like
the ambient air).
